Movie Review - The Expendables 3

You know, I think this series is never going to end because there are so many well known action stars out there that this could be seen as an excuse to throw them all in and have people love them again for better or worse. But I'm not implying that I hate this series because I don't. I don't think its prefect, but when you think about it, the series was never destined to be perfect. Its there to pay tribute and homage to the action genre and let all sorts of action stars (old and new) to have fun while giving us some form of entertainment. So with that said, let's look at the third entry in this series:

So the mercenary group known as the Expendables (which now consists of only Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Road and Crews with Li having left the group) go to extract former member Doctor Death (played by Blade himself, Wesley Snipes who hasn't been in a big blockbuster film for years until now) who is a knives specialist and team medic, from a military prison. With him on board, the team then head to Somalia to intercept a shipment of bombs meant to be delivered to a warlord. While on the mission, the team come across Conrad Stonebanks (played by Braveheart's very own Mel Gibson), a former Expendable who co-founded the team, but betrayed them to make a profit off illegal weapons and was believed to be dead. Because of his advanced military weapons, the team are forced to flee in the oncoming fire fight and lose a member in the process due to heavy injuries. Blaming himself for this, Stallone's character heads out to Las Vegas to meet retired mercenary Bonaparte (played by a man who was once Krusty's right hand man before Bart interfered, Kelsey Grammer) in the hopes to recruit a younger team of mercenaries to help him take down Stonebanks before all hell breaks loose.

While it's not the best entry in the series, its good that we get some more people in the film with talent coming in the form of Snipes, Ford (who plays a character that replace's Willis's character because due to the film makers not giving the money he wanted, he isn't in it and is presumably killed off, but he is mentioned), Banderas (who plays a character who was a mercenary himself before something bad happened to his team) and Gibson. And also a few others too. The action is great and over the top as always, the jokes (especially those that mock the actors' real lives) are great and its just another fun entry. There are a few things wrong with it like I'm not really keen on the idea of recruiting a younger team and I also don't like the way this film was going because it doesn't have as much bloody violence that the last two had which is a bummer, but if the film is trying to attract a younger audience, then I understand. Its defiantly worth a watch if you love action. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
