Doctor Who Review - Listen (S8, E4)

Now this is an interesting one. A lot of us can wonder if we are truly alone when left alone and for the most part, we can sense some kind of presence in the place that we may be in at the time. This is pretty much the setting of today's episode where we find out what's under the bed and are we truly alone, as well as a bit of Clara's past. So with that said, let's take a look:

So the episode begins with a trailer shot of the Doctor on top of the Tardis pondering if we are truly alone. Then after the title sequence (which I like for the most part), we then go to Clara who goes on a date with a guy she fancies at the school she works at called Danny Pink (who we saw in an episode or two ago, played by Samuel Anderson) which as most first dates go, ends up going bad. Upon returning to her flat, she comes across the Doctor who takes her to her past, allowing Clara to use the Tardis's telepathic link to take her there. But when Danny causes a distraction in her head, the Tardis then lands at a children's home in Gloucester and it turns out that this past isn't Claras', but Dannys', leading us to some character development, darkness and the question about are we truly alone, presumably answered.

Now I actually watched this episode a little after it initially aired and a lot of people have called this one of Steven Moffatt's best Doctor Who stories so far and in all honesty, I have to agree. Not only do we get character development for Doctor 12, Clara and Pink, but we also get a lot of darkness and we even catch a glimpse of the Doctor's past that ties into The Day of the Doctor which kind of makes sense in a way. One of the best stories in the show so far and I hope we get more of this in future stories (on TV, radio and in books). 9/10
