Random Movie Review - Evan Almighty

So, Jim Carrey. A great comedian who just by his mere presence in a film, makes the film a huge hit. The film makers want to do a sequel and Jim Carrey decides that he doesn't want to be involved in it because he doesn't do sequels, but can make some exceptions with some of his films like Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura. And because of this, a sequel of any of his films without him in it, is doomed to suck and this one in particular, was among those films and it was a total bomb indeed. At the time, it was the most expensive comedy film ever made and it didn't even do enough at the box office nor impress critics and the general public, so let's have a look:

Evan Baxter (played by the American version of Ricky Gervais in The Office, Steve Carrel) leaves his hometown of Buffalo, New York along with his job as a local television news reporter to start a new life in Virginia with his family and to start a campaign that will help him change the world. As with similar films to this, he gets to see his office space and meet his team on the first day, after which strange things start to happen, leading him to meet God (reprised by Morgan Freeman) who as Freeman does in all his films, explains to him about a flood that will occur and must be ready for it and then the rest of the film is just a retelling of Noah's Ark with a modern and comedic twist.

As a stand alone sequel to one of Jim Carrey's films, Its not great. Steve Carrel does what he does best at comedy, but its not enough to make this film any more great. The CGI effects are weak, the epicness of the film isn't even that epic at all when you go and see it, its full of cliches and of all the things bad with it, I never in a million years, thought John Goodman to be a guy who plays a bad guy when for most of his acting career, he's played the good guy. Its defiantly among the worst sequels to a Jim Carrey film and it shows greatly. I think if anything, Jim made the right decision to not return even if it caused this film to flop. 5/10
