Being stranded at an airport can be the worst thing to happen to you. believe me I know. There was one year where I was on holiday in Portugal and the plane to there was roughly 12 hours late and me and my folks had to get up really early for it, so that felt like torture to us. But what was even worse was that it was roughly a 6 hour delay coming back and when you're in a hot country and the airport has no air conditioning nor the greatest duty free that you can get, its just even more torture. Despite that, its not great being in an airport waiting for so long and it doesn't help when you're trying to get information about your flight, only for someone to really drive you mad asking the same things without listening. But anyway, enough about my experiences with airports, let's take a look at a film about a bunch of kids who are stranded in an airport at around Christmas time:
So our story focuses on 2 siblings Spencer (played by Dyllan Christopher) and Kathrine Davenport (played by Dominique Saldana) who are to travel to Pennsylvania from California to spend Christmas with their dad who is an environmentalist. However during their layover at an airport in Kansas, all planes get grounded and flights are cancelled due to a heavy blizzard of snow. The two siblings are therefore sent to the unaccompanied minors room where they meet a number of other minors like them. Then for the majority of the film, these minors do all sorts of things to keep them occupied until the planes finally start to move out.
I think this is quite a nice film in that it shows the potential risks of travelling to spend Christmas with your family and just gives you that understanding of waiting at the airport for such a long time. Its not the best place to be at (especially at Christmas), but when you have nowhere else to go, the question is what will keep you occupied until everything returns to normal and this film explains just that. But I will say that its not a perfect film because as with the other people who have seen and reviewed this, I did feel that at times, it was a rehash of things that people would often see in other and more funnier Christmas films. Despite that, the young minors themselves perform pretty darn well and despite this not being a box office success, I'm sure that they would have been given other work because of their performances in this film. Not the best film I've seen, but certainly not the worst either. 6/10
