So as some of you know, one of my favourite genres of film is comedy. I know it sounds quite cringe worthy a lot of the time, but as long as you have creative jokes that work, then you'll do just fine. This list is all about the many comedy duos and teams that have entertained us with their chemistry, comedy and whatever else comes to mind. For this list, the teams and duos are people that I have seen in action and have always cracked me up when I see them on screen. So let's start the list:
10 - Frat Pack
Consisting of actors and comedians Ben Stiller, Owen and Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn, this group of people are often considered to be the Frat Pack because of the fact that they are most often seen together in various comedy and family films. While they haven't all been together in the same film, the closest to have such a thing was seen in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy where everyone except for Owen Wilson was in the film, some having cameos and minor roles while others with lead roles. They are definitely a comedy team and each member has hosted Saturday Night Live at least once and every time I see them on screen, I laugh and also enjoy that they share a lot of chemistry together which is great.
9 - David Walliams and Matt Lucas
They may not be operating as a duo any more, but back in the day, these two were a duo who were willing to take many risks in their shows Little Britain and the short lived Come Fly with Me. Many of these risks included sexuality, disability and just general funny but mature sketches. David and Matt were ready to take on anything and I was really gutted to hear about them splitting up, but given how successful their shows were, I'm glad that all the shows they did, only went on for as long as it needed to and while Come Fly With Me was their shortest show lasting only one season, I think it went on for as long as it needed to be.
8 - Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD
Better known as the guys who do Epic Rap Battles of History, these guys are great musicians as they are comedians of some description. All of their rap battles are great (well most of them anyway) and they always manage to make them great and funny too. Yeah, their probably better being in a music list, but I think their rap battles have proven enough for me to have them on this list because they are just so funny and epic too. Nuff said.
7 - Ant & Dec
OK so maybe they are presenters more than a comedy act, but they have done some acting and music as well. But ultimately, its their presenting style which is where the comedy comes in. Banter, making fun of each other and just generally having a laugh, its always nice to see these two when they come on as they always crack a smile in all of us. They are always positive and always upbeat and anybody who knows them personally, will be guaranteed to have a good time with them (though not in the sense some of you may be thinking).
6 - Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg
OK so maybe they aren't an actual comedy act, but these two work together so well, that their films are always a good laugh, even if they suck or not. They have been criticised recently with the whole The Interview thing, but their other work has led to be good at what they do and they may just be in league with Trey Parker and Matt Stone (the creators of South Park in other words) just because of how things play out with them.
5 - Key & Peele
So now we move into the territory where 2 actors/comedians use their surnames as the name of their sketch show and the first of these duos is Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, better known to many as Key & Peele. I haven't watched much of the show (most likely down to the fact that I have not got a TV package like Sky or Virgin Media), but I have seen them in action online on YouTube with their sketches and those two Epic Rap Battles of History episodes where respectively they play as Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. and then Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali. These guys are great at what they do, especially when it comes to being parodies of other celebrities and political figures, while also having some originality in the characters that they play as too. I hope that one day, I will get a chance to see their show, but for now, they have given me enough reason to have them on this list.
4 - Armstrong and Miller
Consisting of actor/comedians Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller (the latter of which I have met in person at a convention), these two give us both stand up comedy and many sketches too. They may not be a double act any more due to the fact that they wanted to move on and do other things, but seeing them in action, did put a smile in my face on many occasions. They have done many stereotypical characters like a combination of upper and lower class characters, foreign characters, a father and son duo and many others. Its possible that we may never see them together again, but for the time that they were together, it was great.
3 - French and Saunders
Quite possibly the best female comedy act that ever lived, these are two comedians who told the world that even women can be funny as well as men. They have done many parodies of such big things like Mamma Mia!, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Doctor Who and so many others as well as their own original stuff. Not only that, but even in their solo roles, they are very funny there too. Just goes to show that anyone can be funny when you put your mind to it and that's what I like about these two. They are great.
2 - Simon Pegg and Nick Frost
I don't know what it is, but these two share a bond that makes them both funny in whatever they do. They have both appeared in all three of the Three Flavour Cornetto films as well as the sci-fi fandom film Paul, the television series Spaced and the Tintin film. They share great chemistry and they are great in whatever they do. There is no strong bond like them with Simon being the protagonist and Nick being the sidekick. Its just great. Ain't nothing like it in my eyes.
1 - Laurel and Hardy
In this list, they are legends in classic slap stick comedy. But put them into a list consisting of the greatest comedy duos of all time, they would definitely be near the top alongside Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck of Looney Tunes. I mean I've seen plenty of their work and I've always laughed at them and of all the people listed here, they are the ones that I laugh my head off at the most. They are so funny and always are a joy to see on screen. They may not be alive now, but back when they were (before my time of course), they always were great to see on screen and that's why they are number one.
