Top 10 All Time Favourite Superheroes

I like superheroes. We all do. They are the kinds of heroes that we look up to and idolise. They protect us with their powers (or whatever they have available to them) and can easily establish what's good and what's bad (for the most part anyway). Having spent a few years watching, reading, playing and researching most things to do with superheroes, I can now finally determine who are my all time favourites. For this list, these are just 10 superheroes that deserve to be superheroes, they come from all forms of media and not just comic books and even if they don't have super powers, as long as they can be super without them, then they will do just fine. That said, let's take a look at these super powered beings:

10 - Hit Girl
Some of you may know her better as that little pint sized girl who can kick a lot of ass and has a bit of a foul mouth while doing so. She can wield swords and guns and unlike most kids, this one you dare not mess with because if you do, a whole pile of s**t is about to go down. Now just to make it clear that the two Kick-Ass films are based on 2 graphic novels of the same name which like the films, deal with how real life superheroes handle a world where the villains always win and funnily enough, the books are published by one of Marvel's independent publishers. But even though she does well enough to be the best that she can, Hit Girl also has a more vulnerable side whenever she's out of costume and trying to be a normal girl which to her, is too much to handle. So if you come across her, be properly prepared because otherwise, you'll be dead in the water.

9 - Deadpool
OK so regarded as an anti hero and the master of breaking the 4th wall (and believe me, I was going to do it as if Deadpool was writing it, but couldn't find enough material for the job), Deadpool is one character who can kick ass as well as be the comic relief of any Marvel project and I could even see him as their mascot just by how overly popular he is. Known as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool shows that he cannot shut up and will do anything to annoy people to such an extent that we just choose to like him even more. He is often seen as a character in the X-Men franchise which in a way he is, but over time has been made separate from that, becoming his own character in his own set of adventures and as such, is one of a few characters that because of his break the fourth wall style and his regenerating ability (something of which he shares with a certain X-Men), he has been one of a few characters to have been able to destroy the Marvel Universe. I like him for his humour and his attitude towards things and whatever happens, you know he will tell you how the story is going and whatever else comes out of that mouth of his.

8 - Wolverine
To sum up Wolverine, the best way you could describe him is that he is an animal with claws. Of course there is a bit more than that, but yeah. Some of you may not know this, but even though he is a mutant, he didn't actually join the X-Men until a bit later on as he had to deal with the Hulk as well as his former team among the members being Deadpool. Anyway, so next to Hulk, this would be the next Marvel character who would be very angry at pretty much anything. Now in the films, Wolverine was the only character to be in all the films and therefore, he got the most character development out of everyone involved which as the popular character he is, is fine, but I would prefer it to have all the characters get an equal amount of character development and not exclusively Wolverine. Despite this, I do think the role was played very well by Hugh Jackman who I believe this was his stand out role which put him firmly on the map. With the ability to regenerate, have claws as weapons and behave like an animal with some human in him, Wolverine is one animal who should never be underestimated and never pushed to the limits.

7 - The Incredible Hulk
One of the more unique Marvel characters, comes in the form of Hulk. To sum him up, he is a monster who is only seen when his human form Bruce Banner gets angry or excited, though many believe that Hulk and Bruce are two different beings living in the same body. Either way, Hulk has been a member of the Avengers, has been shot up into space and as such, has been on both sides, having been both a hero and a villain so therefore making him an anti-hero. To begin with, Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation which then makes him turn into this monster whenever he gets angry or excited (though more the former than the latter) and for a while, he couldn't control the monster until such a time where he would be able to handle him in such situations like assisting the Avengers or other heroes around the place. Whatever happens, if you happen to find him, move away fast otherwise, you'll be getting yourself stuck in a Hulk Smash and no one wants to be in one of those and all that is why I like him.

6 - Green Lantern
So in the DC Universe, there is this group of randomly selected individuals who serve as the Green Lantern Corps. There ongoing mission is to enforce the law in space and stop those who threaten the universe. Now most people would think that the Green Lantern in the Justice League is the only one. You'd be wrong my friend. There is actually hundreds of Green Lanterns who are all different animals and beings, some being the same being or something completely different all together. But most people would refer to either Hal Jordan or John Stewart seeing as those are the two that have actually served alongside the Justice League while fulfilling their duty as Green Lanterns. Not only that but there are also other Lantern Corps out there, some are good, some are bad and some are stuck in the middle. But whatever happens, you know the universe is in good hands whether it be the Justice League or just the Green Lantern Corps assisting in any crisis and crimes that go on in the universe.

5 - Flash
So like with the Green Lanterns, there are also a number of different characters who use the name The Flash. But I think most people would actually know 2 of the 4 Flashes out there unless you have read the comics, those two being Wally West and Barry Allen who West has been Kid Flash and then became The Flash and have both served with the Justice League, the Teen Titans and the Justice Society of America. They are regarded as the fastest men alive and can be just as fast as Superman and because of how fast they can go, they have to power to enter the speed force and go back or forward in time for better or worse. Flash also plays a part in how the New 52 started where during the Flashpoint mini-series, he (Barry Allen) goes back in time and changes something in the past, causing the world he once knew to be in ruins due to a war between Wonder Woman and her Amazons and Aquaman and his Atlanteans with only Batman (Thomas Wayne), Cyborg, Shazam and a very weak Superman at his side and willing to help with the situation. So in a way, Flash can be seen as an anti hero because even though he's a fully fledged superhero, some of the things he does, can cause a lot of harm and hurt to those that he loves and cares for. But whatever happens, this is one guy who can be faster than you.

4 - Spider-Man
I talked a bit about Spider-Man yesterday so I won't go into too much detail here. All I will say is that Spider-Man is another one of those unique Marvel superheroes who compared to everyone else, is a young superhero, being at young adult age and is generally the one who is on duty the most in New York City where pretty much all the Marvel heroes and villains reside in according to some sources. Like with the Flash however, he does tend to do some things that put those he loves and cares for at risk such as when Green Goblin killed Gwen Stacy and Spider-Man thought he saved her but he was wrong because even if the web could do something, he can't do anything if the victim dies of just the mere shock of falling. That being said, Spider-Man can also be quite vulnerable, especially during Civil War where instead of siding with either Captain America or Iron Man, he tried to stay out of it entirely, but when he was forced to reveal his identity under orders from Iron Man, that then started a thing whereby he tries to choose sides, but in the end, cannot decide for himself. But whatever happens to him, he will always be the same friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man that he has always been to me.

3 - Superman
Now while many would call Superman the greatest superhero of all time, I personally would call him that as well, but I wouldn't say he's the greatest but perhaps among the greatest. Reason being why I say that is because he's story has been done to death many times and as such, we all know it by now. Anyhow, so as the leader of the Justice League and the one man who has been through everything and is still standing strong, Superman is a hard man to kill and shows all the aspects of a typical superhero with his super strength, ability of flight, heat and x-ray vision, his speed and just his way of working out what is truth, justice and the American way. He has had many relationships with woman, most notably being with Lois Lane and Wonder Woman, he's a journalist before being a hero and shares a friendship with Batman and is the proud leader of all superheroes whenever a war or crisis ensues. Though he isn't a superhero all the time as he has gone against his allies on many occasions, most notably in Injustice: Gods Among Us where in a similar fashion to Marvel's Civil War, Superman has something happen that has the government deal with superheroes and villains differently with Batman being against him. But whatever happens, he may not know what is right and what is easy, but one thing we do know is that he is a superhero and always will be.

2 - Iron Man
In my eyes, Iron Man is Marvel's answer to Batman. He is just a human being who runs around in a technological and armoured suit doing things any superhero does. Not only that but just like with Batman, his parents were killed and therefore gave him the money to continue running Stark Industries. In other words, Iron Man is Batman in the Marvel Universe, just more light hearted and caring, than intimidating and less of a smart arse. He is a member of several teams in the Marvel universe, most notably the Avengers in which he serves as the leader on many occasions and has been both a superhero and a villain, being in support of the act seen in Civil War and as such, has also been head of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a time and also played a part in Hulk's banishment to space. He has a number of suits at his disposal, some being upgrades of other models while others being made for specific purposes like the Hulkbuster which was made to combat the Hulk should he ever get out of control. This guy is ready for anything and lives the good life so be ready for a good fight.

As always, here's some honourable mentions before my number one choice:

Wonder Woman - I know its kind of sexist that most of the people listed here are all male, but I will say Wonder Woman is one fine woman who knows how to kick ass and play as a team member too.

Martian Manhunter - I don't know a great deal about him, but he is a very wise hero and one of a few DC heroes that originally came from the far reaches of space.

Aquaman - I do feel bad that this guy doesn't get the credit that he deserves, but I think it is cool for a character to talk to sea creatures and have them do what he wants them to do.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl - Natural born warriors who generally know who are the bad guys, but their ways would often conflict with other things going on (from what I know anyway).

Thor - The god of thunder who is quite possibly the second strongest hero to the Hulk (most likely because of his god status).

Captain America - Possibly the oldest of all Marvel heroes, but also one who is a solider from the get go.

Of course I also will give credit to most of the members of the Justice League, the Teen Titans, Young Justice, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four and the X-Men who are all great in their own way as are many other heroes as well. Keep up the good fight is what I say. Now onto my number one choice and I don't think many of you will be surprised with who it is:

1 - Batman
Yep, you all saw this coming. I've been a huge fan of Batman for many years now. He is just a very interesting character to follow. He has an impressive line up of villains and allies, he fights crime in a city where crime is at an all time high and much like with Iron Man, he is just a regular normal human being who has a high IQ and has plenty of gadgets at his disposal. In fact, I think many people may actually consider him to be better than Superman because Superman is someone who came from another world and chooses to protect the new world that he has come to, while Batman came from this world and chooses to protect it at all costs. He may not have had a sort of god like status that his allies in the Justice League have had, but he has done time travel and was one of a few heroes who actually stood up to some of the universes greatest enemies like Darkseid, Brainiac and even Superman as and when he poses as a threat. Say what you will about him, but Batman is and always will be the Dark Knight and will always be a god in my eyes, even if he's nothing more than just a human running around in a Batsuit.

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
