Video Game Review - The Order: 1886

So the first original new IP game of the year that I look at is another one from Sony who compared to Nintendo and Microsoft, seem to be the only company who's new original IPs are generally seen as great games, but often overlooked which is no exception with this very game. Not much hype has been built onto this game as the only parts that people have been doing are just choosing the box art (if you're on PlayStation Voice that is) and watching trailers and that's it. But let's see if its able to give us a good experience on the PS4:

The game takes place in an alternate history London where an Assassin's Creed like team of knights are tasked with protecting the world from half breeds which I can only describe as looking like Professor Lupin's transformation into a werewolf from Harry Potter 3, but its not a werewolf at all. The battle seems to play out as a losing battle, but through the powers that be, this battle may be more than meets the eye. So let's talk about the things have been criticised by others. The gameplay is OK, however it is lacking a lot of things. It plays out like any other third person shooter and has elements such as examining different objects which have been done before. There isn't really much in the way of replay value and the game lacks any form of collectibles (but there are Easter eggs which is OK I guess). I also question how the role of the player is meant to be in the game as it does leave me confused and also the trophies that you can gain in this game doesn't really give you that much of a challenge and I expect there to be a challenge there to have you gain those specific trophies. But the good things about this game is that it is in some way an original story with great cinematic and realistic graphics that push the PS4 to the limit and the technical achievements of the game are just top notch.

So yeah, its not the best PS4 game out there thus far, but it does show off how the PS4 can make games look good and all I can say is keep up the good work Sony. I know it can be a challenge to make a game like this great, but I guess all the effort will be saved until Uncharted 4 comes out. But for now, if you like playing games that have a cinematic feel to it, then you'll like this game. But for everyone else, you can give this a miss because its just not really worth it in my honest opinion. 7/10
