Random Video Game Review - Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China

I got to be honest, Ubisoft have made so many games in this beloved franchise that its hard to keep track of them all. The main games themselves get released yearly and each one tries to build upon each other to be better with Unity being the first of the games to not really be better than Black Flag which I have said previously has raised the bar high for the series and I'd doubt we'll be getting a game of that scale in the series ever again. So we've heard the stories of Desmond Miles and his many ancestors and some other assassins, but its now time to explore the stories of the assassins who we've met, but never really had a chance to properly know them, until now (well from my point of view that is). So to begin this new series of AC games, we start by going to China. Let's see how this plays out:

Originally part of the season pass for Unity until the technical problems came about (though I was one of the lucky ones), we follow the Chinese assassin Shao Jun in the year 1526 who after her training from the Italian legend that is Ezio, sets out to do what every assassin does, to kill templars. In her case, this would be the templar group that call themselves Eight Tigers which she wants to extract vengeance on because they wiped out the Chinese brotherhood. The game is played in a 2.5D side scrolling way with all the gameplay elements of the main games intact and this way works in the game's favour. The graphics are all paint brush art which has the game told in a sort of artistic style and I like it.

It may only be a small game, but it is one that has a lot going for it. Its got the same old story that we have seen in all the games where its a case of you play as an assassin and your job is to take out the templars. That's fine and all, but I would've preferred it to be more original than that, but I will happily accept that for the way it is as the gameplay and graphics make up for it. Its a well presented game and I look forward to playing more in this new series of games. 9/10
