Video Game Review - Disney Infinity 3.0

So having missed out on the last 2 games and me being a Disney fan, I ask myself why didn't I get into this sooner. I guess the series hasn't really been up to the standards that I expect from Disney until this one came around. So when you have something that is so popular and successful like Skylanders, we all know that companies like Disney, Nintendo and now LEGO will catch on and bring out their own take on the Toys to Life innovation. Today we are looking at the third instalment in the Disney Infinity games where in addition to Disney, Pixar and Marvel, Star Wars has arrived and the force is strong with this. So let's not waste any time and dive right into it:

Now as far as I know, the games don't have a story as such, but the general idea is that you get to create your own worlds using Disney elements and in turn, you get to explore different worlds through the means of playsets and other things. Now exploring worlds based on all things Disney in one game, is nothing new because it has been done before in games like Disney Universe and Kingdom Hearts. However, unlike those games where you only get to play as original characters, this game let's you play as characters from those different Disney properties, assuming you have the physical NFC figure and the Infinity base for whichever platform you get to play this game on. The series so far, can let you and a friend play as 2 characters and unlike games that use DLC as a means to enhance the game, this game gives you something similar but very different in delivery which is a playset which fills up the extra third hole on the base. In addition to those, there are also power discs which can give characters some enhancements as you play the game and they sit in the same hole as the playset (but not together). As far as I know, all 1.0 and 2.0 figures will work with this game, as will power discs, but as for playsets, you will still get the stuff that you can use for creation from them, but you can't play the actual stories in them unless you have the game that they were made for. So with all that out of the way, let's actually talk about this particular game. So as the cover of the box implies, this is the one where Star Wars characters and the franchise as a whole, make its debut. Characters from the Pixar films Inside Out and the upcoming The Good Dinosaur also debut. And a number of characters from Disney's past and recent films also make their debuts. As for playsets, we have one that is an Infinity take on the Original Star Wars trilogy, one that's based in The Clone Wars, one for Inside Out, one about when Syndrome (from The Incredibles) takes over the Toy Box, one that has racing like Mario Kart and two upcoming ones based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a Marvel one that will presumably feature Ultron and the Hulkbuster. Power discs this time will not be in blind bags. There are 3 Hall of Heroes, one for Disney and Pixar characters (not just Pixar, just want to make that clear), one for Marvel characters and one for Star Wars characters. In the Toy Box hub, you can explore the Infinity version of Tatooine, Mean Street and Endor and take on various side quests for hosts while also finding presents all over the place.

That just about sums it up. As I haven't played the other games, this review is based on my experience with this game and only this game without drawing any comparisons to other games as I haven't played the other games. As a collaborative project between various developers including Avalanche Software (who serve as the main developer of this game), Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword and DMC: Devil May Cry), Studio Gobo (who did one of the Star Wars playsets and also did one for Guardians of the Galaxy in the last game), Sumo Digital (the OutRun series) and United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs), I have to say, a lot of work went into this and it shows. There are the occasional glitches here and there (most of them can be annoying) and the sound can sometimes get muddled up, but on the whole, its a game made for Disney, Marvel and Star Wars fans and should be considered a reward for the dedication and commitment that fans have shown towards these 3 things. Disney may be taking over the world, Marvel may be too much at times and Jar Jar Binks may be a nuisance on more occasions than one, but you can't deny that the fans are the things that make these things the way they are today and this game shows this. It may be a money suffering investment, but totally worth it if your a fan. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
