Random Movie Review - World War Z

So aside from superhero films, graphic novel films, pop culture films, cat videos and well let's face it, porn, it seems that book to film adaptations and zombie films seem to also be very popular (assuming that the film makers do them right) and we get that very thing with World War Z. A film based on a novel by Max Brooks, directed by the director of Monster's Ball and Finding Neverland and starring a surprisingly all star cast (one of which just so happens to be a "WHO doctor" in this), as well as zombies. So while a trilogy is being made for this, let's have a look at yet another zombie apocalypse film:

So rather than build up to the apocalypse, we are thrown right into it and we meet a family consisting of retired UN investigator Gerry Lane (played by a man who ladies all over the world wish they could be with, Brad Pitt), his wife Karin (played by Mireille Enos) and their two daughters Constance (played by Sterling Jerins) and Rachel (played by Abigal Hargrove). They manage to escape the outbreak in Philadelphia and take shelter with a Hispanic family while awaiting evacuation thanks to some connections of Gerry's in the UN. The Hispanic family choose not to accompany them and get bitten by zombies with only the son managing to escape whom Gerry's family decide to take in. They are flown to an offshore US Navy carrier group near New York and it is here where Gerry and his family separate so that he can help any way he can while his family head for a safe place.

Of all the zombie apocalypse things that I've seen and played, this one I'd say isn't the best I've seen. Its got its good bits like the acting of Brad Pitt and the rest of the cast as well as a fresh take on the aftermath of an apocalypse which while is nowhere near as good as The Walking Dead, its got some style to it so I'm OK with that. But I will say, the whole scenario of zombie apocalypses is coming to a stage where its getting overused and tired, but this film manages to do something new about the start of it and in a way, it works well. 7/10
