Movie Review - Deadpool

Deadpool is everywhere. He's appeared in comics, video games, cartoons and has now hit the big screen. For those of you not in the know, Deadpool is a character of Marvel, often associated with the X-Men and from time to time, Spider-Man. When you think of Deathstroke from DC, this is basically Marvel's answer to that character. However unlike Deathstroke, Deadpool is a mercenary, but also a mutant with mutant abilities such as the power to regenerate himself like Wolverine (therefore making him immortal in a sense). Plus he also has a mouth and is a master of breaking the 4th wall as I have mentioned a few times before in previous posts. Its safe to say that Ryan Reynolds has not really had a good run on the superhero front (although Deadpool is technically seen as an anti-hero more than that) with Green Lantern being a major flop (which he mentions in the film), Blade: Trinity not living up to expectations and X-Men Origins: Wolverine not showing him as the real and better Deadpool. But since this is part of the X-Men films and Days of Future Past kind of changed the timeline, its safe to say that we can all enjoy this film knowing that there is no inconsistencies and that this is the real Deadpool that we all know and love. So let's dive right in:

So much like with any superhero film that acts as the first of presumably many to come, this film is a origin story of Wade Wilson (played by Reynolds) who one day finds that he has cancer and must find a cure to cure it (and yeah, it does sound familiar to the plot of Breaking Bad in some way). He gets a girlfriend called Vanessa Carlysle (played by a woman who is no stranger to nerdy things like Firefly and Batman, Morena Baccarin) and even though he proposes, he fears of losing her forever despite the cancer. Eventually, Wade secretly joins a program which can help cure his cancer and make him a mutant with the power to regenerate. However this procedure proves to be too much which leads to Wade being vastly ugly on the outside and so takes the mantle of Deadpool to find and kill the man that made him this way, while getting high, breaking the fourth wall and avoid being recruited by the X-Men along the way.

From the very start, this film breaks the fourth wall in such a way that it can be a full on cliche fest that Deadpool mocks every time such a thing occurs. Not only that but despite his serious back story, the film in general is funny and exactly what I expected a Deadpool film to be like. Just full on 4th wall breaking while having some comedy and action and coolness and all things that give it a mature rating (fortunately not as cringe worthy as other films I've seen) along the way. I think after 3 bad superhero films, Ryan Reynolds finally gets his first good superhero film and its great. But as with all Marvel films, don't leave until the credits are over because you may just see a after credits scene that is a homage to one of the first ever films to have an after credits scene. Plus expect a cameo from Stan Lee and references to Ryan Reynolds's career and other great things along the way. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
