Random Movie Review - Pixels

So seeing as we have E3 this week, its only fitting that I do a video game film today and today, we have Pixels. The Chris Columbus and Adam Sandler production that had a lot of promises, but failed to deliver despite the casting and the nostalgia fix. But is it as bad as Sandler's other works? Well no, but it still has problems. Let's dive in:

The year is 1982 and two boys by the names of Sam (played by Sandler) and Will (played by Kevin James) enter a video game competition and Sam loses to an obnoxious arcade gamer called Eddie (played by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage). The event is recorded and sent into outer space as a means of a peace offering. We then cut to the present where Sam has become an installer of home media theatres and Will is the president of the United States (yeah, let that sink in, Kevin James as president). Earth is then invaded by aliens who see the peace message as an act of war and use video game characters like Centipede, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man to enslave humanity. But if humanity were to win against the aliens by playing the video games that the characters come from and win without cheating, the aliens will leave. So with help from Sam, Will, Eddie and a few other video game players, they team up with the military to stop the aliens.

The thing is as much as I despise Sandler and James, they actually acted quite well here as do the other actors. But the problem is that the writing is bad as you get one scene in New York where everyone is still in the city despite the threat and another scene where the general makes a decision that bugs us all because its a dumb decision on the gamers part. In fact most of the film's problems can be seen in a CinemaSins video. But despite all that, the acting like I said is good, the CGI is great and very nostalgic and the remix for the Queen song We Will Rock You is a great song. I think if the writing was done better or by someone who's had experience in creative writing, this film would've fared differently. Chris Columbus, you are a great film maker. Don't ever let someone say otherwise. And Adam, I may not like your style of acting and I may not like most of your films, but you did  quite well here. But seriously, if this film ever gets a sequel, get better writers to write it regardless of the cost. 6/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
