Video Game Review - LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I don't know why, but I find that TT Games are getting ahead of themselves. The last few Star Wars games they did had whole trilogies or TV shows in them whereas this one just has The Force Awakens. Thats not a bad thing, but I'd expect there to be more than just this one film and fortunately there is. So let's travel to a galaxy far far away and witness the Force awakening (this time in LEGO form):

So the game tackles the entire film while also telling stories that fill up the large 30 year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. And like with The Clone Wars game, this game also starts off with a remade level from the second LEGO Star Wars game. Its been a long time since Star Wars had the LEGO treatment and when WB took over publishing rights for LEGO games with Disney acquiring LucasFilm not too long after, all seemed lost. But despite that, it looks like Marvel and Star Wars are still getting LEGO games which is great. Along with the familiar elements that the LEGO games are known for, the game also puts in some new gameplay mechanics. These include mechanics that most shooting games tend to have such as taking cover and shooting from cover with assisted shooting if and when its needed. As well as that, the buildable objects give you a choice on where to put it and what to build in the situations presented to you. Plus a first to the Star Wars LEGO games, we get some voice acting which includes archive footage and original dialogue made just for the game. And unlike the previous games, you are no longer restricted to just one hub as you can go to the other planets seen in the film such as Jakku and Starkiller Base.

While it does again improve on things seen in previous LEGO games and brings in some new stuff, its otherwise another LEGO game that's easy to complete and get through, but a charming one too with the signature humour that LEGO games are known for and the chance to play through a movie tie-in game that is just as great as the film it represents. While Star Wars and Marvel may not be joining LEGO Dimensons (at least not in year 2 anyway), its good to know that TT Games do want to carry on making LEGO games with those franchises, even if they now belong to a company who are very protective of their franchises. 7/10
