Video Game Review - Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice

While being a lawyer may be a bad job in general, the Ace Attorney games do show that they can be fun and often at times, serious and hilarious. Its been 15 years since the series began and since then, we've had 6 main series games (including this one), 4 spin-off games (with only one having been released globally), 1 crossover game with a beloved professor who loves puzzles and a live action Japanese film. Some old things are here as well as some new things so let's enter the courtroom once again and win some cases:

So taking place roughly a year after Dual Destinies, Phoenix Wright travels to the fictional kingdom of Khura'in to visit his long time partner Maya who is about to conclude a two year period of spirit medium training and finds himself tackling some court cases while he is there. Back in Los Angeles, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes continue to tackle court cases of their own, all leading into an event that could change the legal system in Khura'in forever. Gameplay of the 6th game retains many of the elements seen in previous games where each case consists of at least one investigation part and at least one court part in which the player must find evidence and other things in the former and must present those things at the right as each case progresses in the latter to prove one's innocence. With the return of Psyche-Locks and the Mood Matrix, we get introduced to Divination Seances which shows scenes of the victims final moments before death and gives the player the chance to find contradictions in the insights given about the victims. Like last time, the game features anime style cutscenes with full voice acting for all characters and it takes advantage of the 3DS's 3D features to give us some pretty hilarious witness break downs and to look at the evidence provided in great detail.

Its a good entry to the series. It continues to give us the gameplay we've come to love for 15 years and its one of those 3DS games that really takes full advantage of the 3DS to give us an experience like no other. Plus its nice to see some familiar faces return, especially those who haven't been seen for so long and how they have grown to being what they are today. 9/10
