TV Season Review - Iron Fist (Season 1)

So the MCU has so far managed to maintain a well thought out franchise consisting of films and TV shows (with some tie in comics as well) featuring a number of Marvel characters that were either not licensed out or were licensed to companies, but Marvel have since bought them back or made a deal with the company in question. But even though the MCU has been great, its not perfect by any means. Some of the films have had a more "meh" reception than others and Agents of SHIELD had a lot of promise, but essentially ended up being a show about superhero janitors cleaning up after the Avengers while also trying to connect everything together. For Iron Fist, it occurs to me that its not very good and for once, even though its Marvel, critics are not wrong about it. But is it as bad as they say? Let's find out:

A man called Danny Rand (played by Finn Jones, no relation) returns home after having lost his parents in a plane crash, but not before training to become the martial artist known as the Iron Fist. His home being New York, he returns to find that his family company being run by his childhood acquaintances Ward (played by Tom Pelphrey) and Joy (played by Jessica Stroup) who at first don't recognise him, but Rand chooses to prove that he is Danny anyway with little to no avail. Eventually, he learns some things, gets the help he needs, but soon enough realises that he must choose between his family's legacy or his duties as the Iron Fist.

The big problem I have with this Netflix show is the pacing. The first few episodes are mostly bore fests that focus mostly on Ward having daddy issues and running the Rand company. Not only that, but I feel that both him and Joy torture Danny in the most jerky like way that just makes you want to strangle them both. Then as the show goes on, Danny proves himself, but then its all about this Iron Fist that he claims to be. I think the pacing is bad, the writing could be better and when comparing it to the other Marvel Netflix shows, it doesn't even come close to being as good as they were. Where's the badassery? Where's the good one liners? It just sucks. I'm sorry, I know fans seem to enjoy it more than the critics, but I'm honestly with the critics this time. It does get better a few episodes in, but I really should expect better from Marvel who I think have finally made a bad thing in the MCU. Not meh. Just bad. 6/10
