Random Movie Review - Chappie

When this film came out initially, I was curious about it at first. But then after a while, I came to know that it was just another one of those robot films and a robot being made, learning what life is like and ultimately be the savior of those closest to it. I know I say for a lot of films that there isn't much originality and its pretty much the same for Chappie. I mean yes there are a few original films that are released every year, but they tend to not get as much attention as big blockbusters which normally follow a familiar plot and characters. But the attention turns on to them when you find that they are winning awards. An example of this was when the LEGO Movie was nominated for awards, but lost to a Studio Ghibli film no one heard about until those awards. But anyway, with people like Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman along with the Slumdog Millionaire guy and directed by the guy who directed District 9, how can this film go wrong? Well let's find out:

So in response to a high rise in the crime rate of South Africa, the government there decide to buy a squadron of supposedly state-of-the-art, armour plated attack robots from a company called Tetravaal. The robots are developed by one Deon Wilson (played by the Slumdog Millionaire guy, Dev Patel) while a competitive engineer called Vincent Moore (played by Jackman) is creating a more tank like robot called the MOOSE and grows jealous of Deon when his project turns out to be more successful than his. Back at home, Deon manages to create an A.I., but his proposition of using it on a robot, is rejected by the head of the company, Michelle Bradley (played by Weaver), prompting him to steal a damaged robot in the hopes to use the A.I. in him. This eventually leads him into being kidnapped by gangsters who want his robot to help them in their battles against other gangs who they owe debts to. But this turns out to be no easy task as the film shows us.

So the thing I hate about this film is the writing. Its not original, it spends too much time having people be angry or hateful against one another and it's the main reason why this film isn't as good as one would like. But apart from that, it has very decent CGI, robots that look very reminiscent of those seen in RoboCop and its well acted by all involved, given the poor writing. I think maybe if there was more work on the writing done to it, then it would've fared better. But for what we have, it could've been worse and I will happily watch any robot film that doesn't have Michael Bay's name attached to it because it's got to be better than his Transformers films, right? 6/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
