Random Movie Review - The Magnificent Seven

Sometimes its nice to watch something that isn't a superhero film, a sci-fi film, a film based on a graphic novel or even a film that is either a remake or sequel to something that was made in an era called the nostalgia era. Now I like a good western film. I feel personally that there isn't enough of them as there are more nerd based things than anything else. The Magnificent Seven is a remake of a 1960 film of the same name which in turn, is a reimagination of a 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai. It also served as the final film to be scored by James Horner following his passing in 2015. So grab your guns and horses and let's get to it:

The year is 1879 and we meet Bartholomew Bogue (played by Peter Sarsgaard), a robber baron who besieges the mining town of Rose Creek and slaughters all the locals who stood up to him. As an act for revenge for her husband, Emma Cullen (played by Haley Bennett) and her friend Teddy Q (played by Luke Grimes) set out to find someone who can help them stop Bogue and his men from destroying their land. They eventually find Sam Chisolm (played by Denzel Washington), a warrant officer who initially declines, but eventually chooses to help them when hearing about Bogue's involvement. The trio then set out to find 6 gunslingers to help them which would no doubt make them legends and it would be magnificent.

In some way, this group of gunslingers can be kind of like how a western Avengers or Justice League would look like. It's not by any means a great film, but it has a great cast of people with a not so original story, but one that's done in a way that makes the film live up to its name which not many films these days tend to do. Plus its nice to see Vincent D'Onofrio play a hero than a villain this time around, having previously only seen him play a villain in Daredevil and Jurassic World. 8/10
