TV Season Review - Doctor Who (Series 10)

So here we are. Its been a while since we had a series and after what feels like forever, we finally have a new series. I will be honest, I've felt that the writing in Doctor Who hasn't been great, but this series is actually pretty decent. I mean its not the best nor the worst, but I like that its not as complicated as before and has a lot more good things than bad things. So let's ride the Tardis and see how it played out:

So as with most Doctor Who stories, each of the episodes see The Doctor (reprised by Peter Capaldi in his final series) and his companions travel in time and space to see different places in time, different alien species and even different planets. In this series, not only do we get the comic relief of Nardole (reprised by Matt Lucas following his first appearance two Christmas specials ago) but we also get what I'm assuming is the first openly gay companion in the form of Bill Potts (played by Pearl Mackie) who seems to have a knack of cooking chips. In the series, The Doctor and Nardole take the guise of a university professor and assistant respectively and recruit Bill as The Doctor's student. There the Doctor is tasked by Nardole (who swore an oath) to protect and guard a vault containing one of the Doctor's greatest enemies. But as you'd come to expect, doing that all the time can be boring and so The Doctor along with Bill and sometimes Nardole, travel on the Tardis to many places such as a place where the language is emoji, a place where Oxygen comes at competitive prices and encounter such aliens like the Daleks, the Ice Warriors, a creature made of wood, a species who call themselves the Monks and a creature made of water. All ending with not one but two Doctor Who firsts involving Time Lords and Cybermen.

All I can say is that this is a very good series. Its packed with a lot of things for people to like and it makes things interesting by giving us a few firsts for the series. I like most of the episodes in it, but didn't really like how the finale played out in that it felt similar to the last series finale, just a bit more brutal and sad. But despite that, its well acted and while it still has some complex storylines, they are not so complicated and confusing this time. And I look forward to what the Christmas Special has in store. 9/10
