TV Season Review - The Defenders (Season 1)

Well here it is. The culmination of what the Netflix shows Marvel made have been building up to. Now for a lot of people, this would sound very familiar as that was how it worked with the Avengers. So maybe it was a predictable way to do it, but I'd say its a good thing. I mean sure we have the Avengers and the Guardians in the MCU so why not have another superhero team. Underdogs or not, they are the Defenders so let's see how it plays out:

So like with the films, its recommended that you watch the shows that were leading up to the Defenders before watching it. Taking place after the second season of Daredevil and the first season of Iron Fist, a common enemy called the Hand which is led by one of its five fingers Alexandra (played by a woman who knows how to kick some ass, Sigourney Weaver) emerges to extract a fossilised dragon living beneath New York city to replenish their life supply. As the start of this causes an earthquake, each of the Defenders Daredevil (reprised by Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (reprised by Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (reprised by Mike Colter) and the Iron Fist (reprised by Finn Jones, no relation) begin to fight the Hand until eventually they are led to working together to take them down alongside their own respective allies.

While I personally felt the build up to this was very similar to how the MCU was building up to the Avengers, its a very good show that sees the so called underdogs of the MCU working together and it is great. Everyone plays their parts well and it also continues from where each of their shows left off to either bring some closure or some much needed character development. So a tad predictable on the build up, but it once again paid off and I look forward to seeing where it goes in the future, whether it be on Netflix or Disney's own streaming service. 8/10
