Movie Review - Kingsman: The Golden Circle

So despite being only one book, Matthew Vaughn had an idea for another Kingsman film and this is what we got. Now I'm all for spy films especially ones that aim to please people and ones that are as entertaining as they are fun. Both Kingsman films are no exception but critics have said that this sequel follows the footsteps of other sequels in that they are just not as good as the original film. Well as this is my review, this is something that I will decide for myself. So let's take a look:

A year has passed since the Kingsman saved the world and with everything seemingly back to normal, all is well. Eggsy (reprised by Taron Egerton) now resides at his old mentor's home with his dog JD and his girlfriend the Crown Princess Tilde of Sweden (reprised by Hanna Alstrom). Have taken up his old mentor's codename Galahad, Eggsy continues working for the Kingsman and one night successfully manages to take down an old enemy called Charlie (reprised by Edward Holcroft) unaware that his robotic arm is remote controlled which leads to many members and bases of the Kingsman to be killed and destroyed respectively. With only him and Merlin (reprised by Mark Strong) as the only survivors, they travel to Kentucky in the USA to team up with the Statesman to take down the people responsible for the Kingsman downfall while also uncovering a conspiracy in the drug business that can very well put humankind's survival at risk. All that and Eggsy's mentor Harry (reprised by Colin Firth) is somehow alive (and that's not a spoiler because it was revealed in the trailer).

So being another film where its trailers kind of ruined it as well as being another sequel that according to critics, turns out to not be as good as its predecessor, its actually pretty darn good. Its action packed like the first one. It plays on the idea of there being an American version of the Kingsman (although the code names are lacking imagination if anything). And in some way, it may have taken Breaking Bad as the inspiration for the drug conspiracy side of things. So some good things in there and some not so good things like the main villain being too similar to the one in the first film as well as the lack of imagination for the Statesman code names. As well as Channing Tatum being wasted. But hey, it keeps the action going and gives fans what they asked for so its all good. 7/10
