TV Season Review - Stranger Things (Season 2)

So amongst all the bad things that came out of 2016, there was at least some good things about that year. One of them was Netflix's newest original show called Stranger Things which instantly became a hit and got itself a place in the geek and nerd world. Most of that is down to great storytelling, great acting from some otherwise unknown actors and having itself based in 1980s America with pop culture from that decade being used quite a bit. It even got down the tropes and stereotypes from that decade as well. So as it is with all successful shows, we got another season of it so let's enter the Upside Down once more:

Oh and be prepared for some spoilers if you haven't seen season 1. You have been warned!

So following what happened in season 1, all the characters still alive are trying to return back to normal lives. Mike (reprised by Finn Wolfhard) still writes to Eleven (reprised by Millie Bobby Brown) hoping that she will one day return. Will (reprised by Noah Schnapp) is still recovering from his time in the Upside Down and having the occasional episode where he feels pain from it. Dustin (reprised by Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (reprised by Caleb McLaughlin) begin to have a mutual interest in a girl called Maxine (played by Sadie Sink), the brother of which (played by Dacre Montgomery) antagonises Steve (reprised by Joe Keery). And that pretty much covers what the main characters have been doing since the first season. But everyone soon learns that a greater threat from the Upside Down has emerged and its up to the gang to not only protect Will and Eleven, but to also save their town once more.

I like this season. It gives Will some more screen time and development, it has more pop culture references such as Ghostbusters and Dragon's Lair being seen in some shape or form. Eleven gets a chance to learn how to control her powers and it all ends with the boys getting what they have been too socially awkward to get which I won't spoil here. Plus even though his time is short, its also nice for Will to have a father figure in the form of the goofy but lovable Sean Astin (aka Samwise in Lord of the Rings as well as one of the Goonies) and its also great to see that there are more people just like Eleven. So to answer everyone's question, yes this is a great season. Probably better than the last one and I look forward to seeing where season 3 goes. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
