AC16: Random Movie Review - Megamind

Once again, I have to bring up the problem of DreamWorks Animation trying to do a Disney thing (and I can say that seeing as they now own Pixar) which is pretty much what they did with Road to El Dorado in that they couldn't do something on Atlantis so they settled with another hidden city or whatever. So this time with Disney and Pixar having released the Incredibles, DreamWorks Animation wanted a piece of the action and so we got Megamind. A superhero film that answers the question "What is a villain supposed to do when the superhero is finally defeated?". Of course its one that has been tried and done before, but DreamWorks Animation decided that they wanted to do their own version and this wouldn't be the first time Will Ferrell plays a villain. So let's see how this plays out:

In a direct parody of Superman's origins, we find that there is a planet which gets destroyed and the only people who managed to make it out are a blue bald guy called Megamind (voiced by everyone's favourite village idiot and sometimes jerk, Will Ferrell) and his soon to become arch nemesis Metro Man (played by probably the only actor who has slept with almost every actress known to man in his films at least, Brad Pitt) who knocks him off course, but eventually they both land on Earth. As time passes, Metro Man becomes the hero of Metro City and Megamind becomes his arch nemesis. But on one occasion, Megamind's plans actually works out in his favour due to Metro Man's supposed weakness to copper and he obliterates him to kingdom come (or so we think). With no hero to take on, Megamind grows bored of city domination and takes matters into his own hands to put things right again.

I guess in some way, Megamind can also be DreamWorks Animation doing something before Disney which is the villain turning good. I am of course referring to Wreck-It Ralph though Ralph was a good guy anyway. He was just fed up with the job he had of being the bad guy. Anyway this film is actually pretty good despite its unoriginality and following suite with previous DreamWorks Animation films where most of them were parodies. Its very well acted, very funny and has some heart to it as well. Plus some twists and turns make it quite a fun film and I guess in a way it could be seen as a family version of Superman, but not Superman as the hero or in the name. Lots of fun is to be had here. 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
