Random TV Season Review - Game of Thrones (Season 7)

So here we are. The penultimate season of Game of Thrones. So since reviewing seasons 1-6, I have now read all the books released so far (though I am to believe that the next one comes out sometime this year) and its fair to say that I now have a better understanding about the world and its characters. But seeing as this season largely follows an original plot with elements of George R.R. Martin's upcoming books in the series, it does feel quite unnecessary, but its something I needed to do for a while since getting into the show. So with all that said, let's look at the penultimate season where winter has finally come:

With the Lannisters causing trouble in Westeros, Daenerys (reprised by Emilia Clarke) arrives with her army and three dragons to wage war against them. In the process, Jon Snow (reprised by Kit Harington) attempts to form an alliance with her to help fend off the White Walkers who are quickly emerging beyond the Wall and we get some family reunions too.

As the shortest season so far with only seven episodes as opposed to ten episodes like previous seasons, its pretty damn good as always. Rather than spend too much time focused on minor characters, it focuses mostly on its central characters and sets up the stage for the show's final season and it is by far the most action packed one so far. There are parts of this season that have a light dose of things that previous seasons have done a great deal of which is OK and lots of twists and turns at every corner. Great season and I look forward to the final one next year. Until then, let's hope we get to read the next book. 9/10

With the Blu-Ray release, there is a bonus disc called Conquest & Rebellion  that delves into the history of the Seven Kingdoms and while mostly full of still images with narration, its very well made and definitely worth your time if you need to brush up on your Song of Ice and Fire history. 9/10
