Next from the world of Netflix is a film from Point Grey. Those of you who don't know, Point Grey is Seth Rogen's production company who have done many of his works such as This is the End, the controversial The Interview and the hilarious Sausage Party. Traditionally, Point Grey films tend to star Rogen and many of his collaborators. But this time, it stars some actors who previously worked together on the sitcom Workaholics. So one way or another, this is a comedy and one that is all too familiar if you've ever watched Die Hard or similar films. So let's see if this really is game over or if there's another life for it yet:
The film takes place at a luxury hotel in Los Angeles where three housekeepers (played by Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson) are on the verge of getting their video game financed. But when their potential benefactor and several other people at the hotel get taken hostage by a group of terrorists, the dysfunctional trio must work together to save the hotel and its people while taking down the terrorists as they go. And they do it Die Hard style.
In my opinion, Die Hard is one of those iconic films that many filmmakers should just leave alone and never spoof it. While this film does pay homage to it, the plot is all too familiar, it's got cliche after cliche at every turn and just when you think they are being original, they go right back to doing things that have been done over a billion times before. But despite that, it has a very good cast who could be doing something else than doing this film. The celebrity cameos are pretty funny when they need to be. And when compared to say Paul Blart: Mall Cop, its the better one of the two by a long shot. Its at least worth one watch, but don't expect it to be as great as its hyped up to be. 4/10
