Random Video Game Review - Batman: The Enemy Within

Of course when it comes to a franchise like Batman, there's always more to come. So two years ago, TellTale started a new series focused on the dark knight himself with a story set after Year One thus allowing fans to do their own take on the caped crusader's career the following year after Year One. The idea was that fans would be able to tackle situations as both Batman and Bruce Wayne and for the most part, it was well received. The ending sort of opened the game up to sequels and the first sequel is here. And as you can tell from the cover art above, a certain clown prince of crime is expected to appear. So let's get to it:

Following the defeat of the Children of Arkham as well as Two-Face and his forces, Batman (reprised by legendary voice actor Troy Baker) continues patrolling the city of Gotham while also slowly regaining his reputation as Bruce Wayne. One night when targeting an arms dealer, Gotham's first costumed villain the Riddler (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes who is no stranger to Batman media) returns to cause trouble. Reluctantly teaming up with the Agency led by Amanda Waller (voiced by Debra Wilson) who in turn overpowers the GCPD led by Commissioner Gordon (reprised by Murphy Guyer), Batman goes to hunt down and capture Riddler, making new allies and enemies in all shapes and sizes along the way. Much like with TellTale's other work, this is a point and click game with very simple controls and a lot of quick time events such as action sequences and decision making. There is a big focus on relationships this time where you can decide to be hostile or friendly towards people.

As far as storytelling is concerned, it is a good story and one where we can make things canon or go a completely different path and change things for the better or for worse. Graphically, it's pretty much as it was in the first game, albeit with some minor improvements to previously established characters such as Commissioner Gordon's mustache being larger. And it's nice to have some more original characters even if we get more well established characters than original, but it's still good. I decided to wait until the game was in a complete form rather than review each episode individually, but it was worth the wait I'm sure. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
