Random Movie Review - Big Trouble In Little China

Since watching Ready Player One, I decided to look at most if not all the things that it referenced because it is one film packed with pop culture references. I was surprised by the amount of things I didn't know about until watching that film. Now with Big Trouble in Little China, I already knew about the film before seeing Ready Player One and never really had to chance to watch it until recently. It's a cult classic and also the film that made the director John Carpenter go back to making independent films in a classic disappointed with Hollywood scenario. But that's not to say that the film is bad. Its just these things that happen. So let's see what this trouble in China is:

The film is a story of trucker Jack Burton (played by legendary actor Kurt Russell) who following a bet with his friend Wang Chi (played by Dennis Dun), he accompanies him to pick up his wife from the airport. But when a Chinese gang kidnaps another girl of Chinese descent intending to sell her as a sex slave, they accidentally kidnap Chi's wife so he and Jack team up to save her wife and it somehow involves magic of some capacity (which could be the reason why its a cult classic).

So the film itself as I said is a cult classic and elements of it were later used to make the character of Raiden in Mortal Kombat. It was also loosely used in the Gangnam Style music video too. So I'd say its a good film. It gives us what we paid to see and its one of those rare buddy films with an American and Eastern pair that's actually an enjoyable watch. Its funny when it needs to be, has some very clever but funny one liners and its a blast to watch. Anyone who is into films like this will enjoy it for sure. 9/10
