Random Video Game Review - Beyond Good & Evil

A few weeks ago, we had E3 and amongst all the news that was shown, many people were happy to see a highly anticipated game being confirmed of its existence. No I'm not talking about Kingdom Hearts III or the home console Pokemon games. I am of course talking about Beyond Good & Evil 2 which serves as a prequel to the 2003 video game. Yeah that's how long its been since that game originally came out. So as we wait for the new game to be released, let's have a look at the game that started it all:

Set in the year 2435 on a mining planet called Hillys, we meet Jade (voiced by Jodi Forrest) who is a job hunter seeking money to keep a shield running that protects the children of the planet. Eventually she gets recruited by the IRIS Network who are suspicious of some planet wide disappearances and send Jade out to uncover a conspiracy of such. Before we got games like the Batman: Arkham series, this was the best third person perspective game there was amongst others. It has players do puzzles and use the power of stealth to get through missions. And before any Mass Effect game came about, this would be one of the earliest games to let the player character command their companions around, some of which are required for some missions. Plenty of minigames and side missions to do as well and Jade can use her own weapons and trade with others to progress through the game. And there's some vehicle gameplay in there too.

While it may not be much to look at now that most games released nowadays are much better looking, for the time it was great. It probably sounds like a game with nothing new to it, but it has its charm and it's quite an enjoyable experience which has definitely gained its cult following status. The original game may be hard to come by, but there is an HD port that can be bought on certain newer consoles so you can play it in preparation for the prequel that is expected to come out soon. 9/10
