Random Movie Review - Saturday Night Fever

Before he was in Grease, John Travolta spent a great deal of time on the dancefloor where he starred in a film that from what I can see, literally invented the dance off and (without trying to quote Trump as I say this) made disco music great again. Saturday Night Fever helped pave the way for dance offs, disco music and making Travolta a household name. So yeah there is lots one film can do to make an impact on the world. Let's see if it still holds up after all this time:

Set in the 70s, we meet an Italian American 19 year old named Tony (played by Travolta) who lives with his parents, grandmother and younger sister and has a dead end job. To escape the troubles he has, he along with his group of friends go to a local disco club where they dance the night away. One night, he meets Stephanie (played by Karen Lynn Gorney) who longs for a sexual relationship with Tony while also wanting him to be her dance partner in an upcoming dance off. He agrees, but it isn't long before things turn sour and for the worse for him.

Anyone who just wants to have a good time will definitely get it with this film. Its full of music that will get you up and dancing and deals with problems most 19 year olds in the 70s have to deal with such as drugs, gang wars and working in bad jobs. Everyone acts their parts well and 40+ years later since its release, it still manages to hold up and remains a solid but great film that most other films may never be able to beat. 9/10
