Netflix sure gets some weird stuff and today's film is no exception to that rule (at least for some of it anyway). So to a lot of people, Next Gen often means the next generation in say gaming or humanity or even the next line of iPhones. In today's film, its all about generations of robots in a scenario that's basically what if an Apple like corporation created generations of robots instead of countless phones, tablets, computers, music players and other devices. So let's see what next gen stuff we got here:
So the film is about a lonely little rebellious girl called Mai Su (voiced by Charlyne Yi) who is often ignored by everyone including her mother due to the overwhelming popularity of robots. She of course uses her rebellious nature to try and put an end to the robots, though manages to form an alliance with a top secret robot known as 7723 (voiced by John Krasinski) who despite being a robot itself, is manipulated by Mai to help her. Though the pair soon uncover a top secret plan that could very well bring the end of everything as we know it and together they must stop this plan from coming into fruition.
As with everyone else, I will also compare this film to similar films about kids/teenagers befriending robots and the robot temporarily goes bad due to a misunderstanding or whatever. Anyway the film is pretty good. Its beautifully animated which of course is normal for indie/relatively unknown film makers. Its also well acted despite using a very familiar scenario/concept and although kids will enjoy it, I doubt the adults will have just as much fun. But still as I say, its a pretty good film overall, but probably one that most people may forget about quite instantly. 8/10
