Random Movie Review - Beetlejuice

You know whenever you hear names like Stephen King, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Craven and Tim Burton you know its Halloween. Stephen King because of his variety of horror novels and subsequent miniseries and films. Stanley Kubrick because of his two films A Clockwork Orange and The Shining which are both related to Halloween in a way. Wes Craven because of his many, many horror films including the Nightmare on Elm Street films and the Scream franchise. And lastly Tim Burton for his dark fantasy films which often feel very close to Halloween due to costume designs and just how creepy and bizarre it all is. Today we look at one of Burton's most well known films as well as the last film Michael Keaton had before taking on the mantle of the caped crusader. I am of course talking about Beetlejuice which is as bizarre as it sounds. So let's dive in:

The film largely focuses on a couple (played by Alec Baldwin pre-Trump era and Geena Davis) who somehow wind up being dead due to a car crashing accident. They find themselves in a purgatory of sorts and have become resident ghosts to what was their home. When they discover another family moving in, they enlist the help of Beetleguese (played by Keaton) to try and scare them away though they soon realise that this insane character they have recruited may be more than what they are bargaining for.

In every Burton film I have seen, I have always liked the set designs and also the costumes used. When it came to Beetlejuice, I still liked it all very much. The story is a bit complicated to follow, but you soon start to understand it all as its just Burton doing a take on what the afterlife could look like and its done really well. Definitely one of his best works and also serves as the start of a great team up with Keaton as he would then be Batman in their next film together. 9/10
