Random Video Game Review - Stacking

I find it quite amazing that Double Fine are still making great games and most of them are new(ish) IPs if nothing else. So during the development of the rock 'n' roll game Brutal Legend, Double Fine made a few small games to keep players occupied and one of those games was Stacking. The idea comes from the classic Russian Dolls where each one you open up, there is a smaller one inside and goes on and on until you reach the smallest doll of them all. So its a stacking game alright so let's stack away:

Set in a fictional version of the industrial age, the story focuses on Charlie Blackmore who is the youngest of his family and must go on a mission to save his other siblings as well as his parents from an evil being known as the Baron who has made all his family into slaves. As Charlie, players can stack into bigger dolls which each one having their own abilities to help solve any and all puzzles that Charlie may come across. Some of them may require more than one doll depending on abilities and size. All areas of the game have extra challenges which can make for a variety of solutions throughout the game giving gamers an experience they can decide how it all goes down. Of course there are plenty of challenges, collectibles and a whole lot of stacking. Plus it looks very pretty too and takes advantage of using in-game silent movies in the place of cutscenes.

Basically, you get what you pay for here and that is all that matters to most gamers. Anyway Stacking is a lot of fun with plenty of variety and although it can feel like it, its not always just a one trick pony. Its very pretty to look at too and is perfect for gamers needing a gap filler between new releases. Though it can be short as well, but still pretty good. 9/10
