AC11: Random Movie Review - The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland

So at the time of doing this review, I had only ever seen all the Muppets films that were theatrically released. So today we're looking at the first Sesame Street film I have ever seen. So around the time when I found out about this show, I was too old for it given that its one of those shows that's tailored to the very young child audience and would be one of the earliest times that we would get exposed to fourth wall breaking jokes all for the sake of making it interactive. So one of their most popular characters gets his own film (though less popular if you ever bought that annoying toy of him) and we're going to look at it today. So let's get to it:

The film begins with an introduction from Ernie (performed by Steve Whitmire) and Bert (performed by the legend that is Frank Oz) who go about getting the audience interested in the film as well as poke fun at the famous 10 second wheel. Then going into the world of Sesame Street, we meet Elmo (performed by Kevin Clash) who is trying to find his blanket and after some audience participation, manages to do so. But as this is a world full of Muppet characters, shenanigans occur which lead to Elmo losing his blanket and ultimately ending up with Oscar the Grouch (performed by Caroll Spinney). But when Oscar sends the blanket down his trashcan, Elmo goes after it and ends up in Grouchland which as the name implies, is a world full of Grouches. So Elmo needs to find a way home with his blanket which as you can imagine, leads to more shenanigans as well as a few musical numbers and appearances from other Sesame Steeet characters.

Kind of like how Gonzo was the main focus in Muppets from Space, this film clearly manages well to tell a story about one of Sesame Street's many beloved characters and the interactivity isn't too bad too. Its a fun film that new and old fans will enjoy and just shows that even when the Muppets are at their prime, some of the late Jim Henson's other works can still be great too. 8/10
