So as we all know, last year was a big but emotional year for the superhero genre as we lost many heroes in the film world whether it be from a powerful reality shattering weapon or from more natural causes such as cancer and fighting to the last breath. In the process of all of that, we got a long awaited newer take on the very well known Superman story that's basically about a fight that pushed him to his ultimate limit and how he returned a new person so to speak. So here we are with part two of that story so expect some major spoilers and an experience best described as action packed and emotional. So let's get to it:
So the film begins six months following the passing of Superman (reprised by Jerry O'Connell) in which all his allies, his enemies and those closest to him have all moved on with Lois Lane (reprised by Rebecca Romijn) and Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman, reprised by The Defenders go to gal, Rosario Dawson) becoming good friends and four new supermen trying to take the mantle of Superman. Although each of them have good intentions, it soon becomes clear that one of them has a plan for an invasion that's been long in the making and when the Justice League dissappear, only one Man of Steel can rise from the ashes to save everyone or die trying.
As someone who has read a few Superman comics, most of them tend to be stories about the powers he gets and just learning what it takes to be the hero that he is. That's all well and good, but sometimes that can be ok for a while and then we are all wanting a bit more than that. So I'm pleased that the overall story about his death and rising from the ashes (as we are led to believe) is more original than a story just about his powers and what it takes to be the hero that he is and both films reflect that. For part two, its a great follow up that has us all guessing who is trully the bad guy and whether these supermen are genuine superheroes or just Superman wanabes. As a Superman focused Justice League film, it is very good and introduces to the film world other versions of the hero many of us know and love that many may not have ever heard of. Its a great edge of your seat film that keeps us guessing and also be emotional when things get a bit intense. 9/10
