Random Video Game Review - Armello

One of the great things about places such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo is that both parties get something out of it. The person making the campagins gets money to reach various goals to be able to release his or her product. Whereas the people spending the money get some perks which can range from simple shoutouts to being more involed with the actual project. Now that's all well and good, but you will often find that some campagins don't play out as well as we would like. But fortunately for us, Armello wasn't among those destined for failure. In fact it had originally been made for iPad devices and its Kickstarter campaign was more for it to have a Steam and GOG.com port and its that particular port that I will be reviewing today: So let's see if all that time and money was worth it:

Set in the "dark fairy tale" kingdom of Armello where anthromorphic animals reside, the great king becomes currupted by a dark force which means that a new one must take his place. Thus representitves from each of the animal clans in the kingdom rise up and go on a journey to become the new king or queen. A choice of 20 different characters (including all those DLC ones, but otherwise you start with eight) to choose from each with their own unique powers and abilites. The game plays out as a fantasy tabletop RPG that utilises a virtual dice and cards to carry out specific tasks. Up to four players can play the game at any given time each from a different clan, but with the common goal of being the new king or queen of the kingdom. Randomly generated areas are a thing in this game and come in the form of hexaganle dungeons to explore, quests to complete, rivals to battle and/or settlements to capture. And yeah it pretty much plays out like most turn based RPGs with skill trees with a huge empathis on dice and card use.

Although its known to be a game that uses a centuries old genre (like one critic calls it), Armello is just one of those games that is well balanced enough to prove that the genre is not gone yet. Its well presented with character models that you can drool over and its just a pretty good game overall. Well worth your time if you are into this sort of thing. 8/10
