Random Movie Review - Batman: Hush

Celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Batman continue with the release of yet another animated film. This time around, its another film based on a beloved story which in its original release, was told over the course of a year. Its also one of the few occasions in which many of Batman's most well known villains in the rogue gallery make an appearance. So yeah its a pretty special tale of love, conspiracies and death. Definitely a story worthy of the caped crusader. So without further ado, let's get to it ahead of Batman Day on the 21st:

Set in the DC Animated Movie Universe (itself based on the New 52 timeline in the comics) and taking place some time after Reign of the Supermen, we see Bruce Wayne (reprised by Jason O'Mara) attending an evening party in which he is reunited with childhood friend and renowned brain surgeon Thomas Elliot (voiced by Maury Sterling) and also sees Selina Kyle (voiced by Emma Swan herself, Jennifer Morrison) whom over the course of the film, he starts a relationship with. Upon being alerted by Alfred (voiced by James Garret) that Bane (voiced by Adam Gifford) has kidnapped a child, Batman swings into action to stop him, only to learn that Bane is using a new kind of venom. He also meets with Lady Shiva of the League of Assassins (voiced by Sachie Alessio) who is in need of his assistance in identifying an unknown intruder that used the Lazarus Pit. Following a nasty fall by an unknown assailant while in pursuit of Catwoman, Bruce quickly recovers and sets out to figure out who this person is while dealing with his own rogue gallery and at one point Superman (reprised by Jerry O'Connell).

So although it does try to do its own thing like most adaptations, the film remains faithful to the graphic novel and manages to keep the story largely intact. Some obvious changes include Bane in the place of Killer Croc, no mention of Jason Todd and two other things which are spoilers so best not to mention those. Generally if a film that is based on one of the greatest superhero stories ever told by DC, the definitive voices for said heroes should be the ones voicing the characters. That's not to say that Jason O'Mara is a bad voice actor because he isn't. I just prefer hearing Kevin Conroy when I think about any great Batman story like Hush. Still though, its a fine adaptation of the film with a lot of twists and turns and released at probably the best time to when we are celebrating another milestone anniversary for the caped crusader. Next, bring on Joker. 9/10
