AC12: Double Random Video Game Review - The Jungle Book + Aladdin

So before they started licensing out their properties, Disney would be self publishing their own games and hiring various developers to create said games. Seeing as I have previously reviewed many of the old Disney games, today we are going to look at two more. One gives us a whole new world and the other will give us the bare necessities. So as they are still available to buy on the likes of Steam, let's get to it:

The Jungle Book
So you may have heard me say before that Virgin had their own gaming division for a while. As such they became widely known for making arguably the best Disney games out there and the first is The Jungle Book. Now when the film came out originally, video games were not really as well known as they are today. So in a way, this game came out long after the film. But it became popular nonetheless and more so when the sequel came out (which I have reviewed already this month). The plot is the same as the film as it focuses on Mowgli's journey to the Man Village while trying to avoid Shere Khan. Along the way, he battles wildlife and meets key characters from the film. The game plays out as a 2D side scrolling platforming adventure in which Mowgli must either shoot or avoid enemies while negotiating platforms. He can run, jump, climb and can use various weapons and power ups to go forward. Progressing through the game requires the player to find a specific number of gems in each chapter and find a character to give the gems to in order to proceed. Boss battles occur every other level and all levels are six minutes each with fifteen gems in total to collect (but progression needs only a set number of gems). So this game is pretty good. It has some good visuals for the time and most people including myself, find the Megadrive/Genesis version to be the superior one of them all even though every version is effectively the same game. I believe the port that is on Steam and other platforms is based on that version. But nevertheless, its good fun and will definitely have the bare necessities of life that you need. 9/10

Aladdin
There were many games that came out following the original film's release and some were actually pretty good. But I think many can agree that the best and arguably the most well known version is the one for the Megadrive/Genesis that Virgin Interactive created (while Capcom handled the SNES version and SIMS did the Game Gear version). Playing through the plot of the original film, you play as the titular hero as you progress through various locations from the film including Agrabah, the dessert, the Cave of Wonders and more. Of course there are plenty of enemies which Aladdin can take on using his sword or apples. Apples are limited, but in addition to them, there are gems which Aladdin can trade with a travelling peddler for lives. Plus if players manage to find either a Genie or Abu token, they are then given a bonus round in which you get either a slot machine (Genie) or a item collecting level (Abu). So in terms of where I stand with the many versions of this game, I really like this one. Its the one I remember playing the most and its great fun with some good visuals and remains faithful to the film. Of course I'm sure the Capcom and SIMS versions are faithful too, but I think this one is the best and I'm glad it has found a new home on Steam and other platforms. 9/10
