AC13: Random Movie Review - Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I loved the first film in the MonsterVerse so I was really looking forward to seeing this one. So many of us don't know that in the universe of Godzilla (Portrayed again by T.J. Storm), he isn't the only giant monster. They have been loads of monsters and its good that a Hollywood studio has decided to bring them into a film made outside of Japan for an all out brawl. Yep, its that kind of film. So let's see if this brawl is worth paying money for:

Five years have passed since the existence of Titans and Kajus have become known to all humankind and Dr. Emma Russell (played by Vera Farmiga) alongside her daughter Madison (played by Eleven herself, Millie Bobby Brown) head into a Monarch faclility to witness the birth of another one known as Mothra. Using resources to calm the monster down, the facility is then attacked by a group of eco-terrorists who kidnap Emma and Madison while Mothra retreats to a nearby waterfall. Meanwhile, Monarch scientists Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (reprised by Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Vivianne Graham (reprised by Sally Hawkins) approach Dr. Mark Russell (played by Kyle Chandler) with the intent of having him find his ex-wife and daughter. Although hesitant at first due to his hatred for Godzilla, he agrees. Before long, the eco-terrorists set out about freeing a monster known as "Monster Zero" as well as a monster called Rodan which leads to some betrayals, revelations, sacrifices and an all out war between monsters to see who would be king of them all.

As good as the visuals are with this film, it has a very complicated story. I was glad to see the monsters fighting, but just sad that the story just didn't do it for me. The characters old and new are OK and the actors and actresses playing them do pull off some half-decent performances. Still an OK popcorn film, but would've been better if it had a better story especially as the next one after this one pits Godzilla against King Kong. This is how the DCEU should have gone with having one film about the main superhero, one about the second best hero, another one with the first and then have the VS film rather than rush it all. But going back to this film, the monsters all look recognisable and the battles they have and what they do, its pretty epic. 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
