AC24: Random TV Special Review - Operation N.A.U.G.H.T.Y. (Ninnies Almost Undo Greatest Holiday This Year) (Codename: Kids Next Door S5 E5)

So I'm concluding the advent calendar posts this year with a look at one of the lesser know Christmas Specials out there. All of you will have come across Cartoon Network at least once or twice and know of their original cartoons originating on their Cartoon Cartoon block. Some cartoons in that block have a successful pilot and are then turned into an actual series and Codename: Kids Next Door is one such series. The premise is about the titular secret organisation run by kids who have the ongoing mission of fighting for the rights of kids everywhere against the adults and some loyalist kids. So here we are with their Christmas special which as you can tell, has references of X-Men thrown in. Pop culture is something that the show is very good at parodying. So let's see what merriment awaits us here:

Set during Season 5, we get a version of Santa's Workshop in which the elves sing a festive version of the Rainbow Monkeys theme tune (this is a in universe show by the way). During one shift, a group of masked kids that are seemingly Sector V (the main protagonist group of the series) attacks the workshop and put many of the elves asleep. Following the title sequence however, the real Sector V haven't attacked the workshop and talk about Christmas before finding out about the Elf Strike Force that has taken over their treehouse believing that the team attacked the workshop. But in the confusion and after battling them and the "12 days of Christmas", the team tell them that they have been waiting to buy the new Rainbow Monkey and upon realising that they couldn't have destroyed the workshop, the teams unite to save Christmas from their enemies before all the kids in the world get coal.

What's great about this special is that it basically acts as a Christmas special in every way while also doing a parody of the X-Men thus making it one of the more original specials. Its great fun and manages to keep within the spirit of the holiday. A great cartoon special overall and a lot of fun to be had. Also it gives more mature audiences something to love too. 9/10
