Random TV Season Review - Stargirl (Season 1)

One of the good things that came out of the Crisis on Infinite Earths event in the Arrowverse is how the event was able to establish a new multiverse and with it, a whole slew of shows set on various Earths which at the time may have been in various stages of production. In the case of Stargirl, it hadn't been broadcast at the time and so its appearance in the crossover was used as a means to advertise it and get the hype going. Over here in the UK, its on Prime Video which seems to be the go-to place for most of DC's shows that in the States end up on DC Universe and in some instances HBO Go and The CW's streaming platform. So let's see if DC's latest series is any good:

The series is about the Justice Society of America who were once great superheroes. But after a "final battle" of sorts against their villainous counterpart the Injustice Society of America, most of the team is killed with only STRIPE (played by Luke Wilson) and possibly others being the only survivors. A decade later following the incident, STRIPE who is known as Pat is trying to have a normal family life. But when his stepdaughter Courtney (played by Brec Bassinger) finds the staff that once belonged to Starman (played by Joel McHale) which seems to take a liking to her, she sets out to become Stargirl and form a whole new generation of the Justice Society of America much to the reluctance of Pat. But this of course poses problems for the Injustice Society of America who reform to stop these new heroes from causing trouble for them.

While quite cringy here and there, Stargirl is a pretty good series. It probably could do with a name change as it has a superhero team within it, but I guess the name is OK because it is centred on Stargirl anyway. Plus it's great that these golden age heroes finally have a series of their own after previously being featured in other shows either as part of a different team or as they are, but just for a couple of episodes. Action packed and well acted throughout. The CGI is a bit cheap, but not too shabby. So yeah give it a watch if you need that DC fix. 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
