I think its time we take a look at another beloved Christmas film. Now we all know the story of A Christmas Carol because of its many, many, many adaptations. But what about a film where it's just one ghost (or figure that all but one can't see) and the person going on this journey isn't at risk of facing damnation as such, but needs some convincing that people love him and miss him loads. In other words, this too could be seen as another adaptation, but as it's very different to anything we have had before it, I see it as a more original Christmas film and for good reason. So let's take a look at it:
The year is 1945, and we are in Bedford Falls, New York where 38-year-old George Bailey (played by the late James Stewart) contemplates suicide. But when the prayers of his friends and family are answered, an angel called Clarence Odbody (played by the late Henry Travers) descends from the heavens assigned to save George and earn his wings. Clarence watches George's life that leads up to this point and makes it his mission to save George before it's too late.
It may be old and dated, but this is a beloved classic worthy of being watched annually and religiously. It does have some disturbing themes all tied into suicide, but it's that one film that proves to people that they are worth a damn and that there are people out there that do love them. Some people forget that especially in challenging times like these, but we are all in it together and this film is great. Not so much focused on Christmas itself, but it is set around that time and it's just a good watch. 9/10
