Random Video Game Review - Imperator: Rome

It has always been debatable whether I should include spin-offs in series reviews. I guess if the game, film or TV show in question is very different to where it came from originally (not just in title alone), then I could probably get away with reviewing those games separately. This was the case with the Devil May Cry series which itself was originally going to be part of the Resident Evil series. But too many changes and feelings resulted in it becoming its own franchise. Another good example is the Deadpool films which are considered spin-offs from the X-Men film series. Some of the X-Men do appear in the films, but overall it's tone and what the two films set out to do are very different when compared to the other films. The Wolverine films can also be considered spin-offs, but I normally include those in an X-Men series review because much of what is seen in those films ties into other films like with The Wolverine tying into X-Men: Days of Future Past. All of those examples have nothing to do with this game however which is more of a successor than a spin-off to the game it came from. In this case, I tend to review it alone because a successor is normally built around the same concept, but has little to do with the game it's a successor to. So let's have a play:

The game's setting is during the establishment of the Roman Empire and also the Wars of the Diadochi among a few others set before, during and after those particular periods. The map you get is huge and has over 7,000 cities. Like with other games made by Paradox, all the nations in the game are playable. It is a strategy game first and foremost and much of what players can do include managing characters and handling diverse populations. And of course handling the activities that must be done to achieve victory in the few battles that are depicted in the game.

This game is OK at best. It plays well and has a lot of things to keep gamers busy much like most of Paradox's games. But I will say that these sorts of games are not usually my cup of tea. I tend to be more for games you get to play on consoles, but PC games do have so much more than what you get on consoles which is possibly a reason why most people tend to stick to PC even with the consoles now being closer to being like a PC. But anyway, a good game overall. 7/10

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
