Star Wars Day Special: Random TV Show Review - Ewoks

Star Wars Day is upon us again, so it's time to look at something from the beloved galaxy that is far, far away. So since Disney+ first launched, we've got used to watching almost everything they have at their disposal which is a lot. But recently (at least here in the UK), they decided to bring in their more mature content for an older audience which now join The Simpsons which has been the major selling point of the streaming platform since launch. In addition, Disney have acknowledged that there are some Star Wars fans who enjoy much of the stuff that is now considered non-canon, and so they have bought a number of vintage cartoons, shows and films to the service in a collection called Star Wars Vintage. One of those cartoons is what we are looking at today. The Ewoks of course are perhaps best known as the teddy bear like characters that helped the Rebels destroy the facility that was giving the Death Star II its shields. They are also known as the creatures that helped a young Warwick Davis jumpstart his career as a beloved actor who would go on to appear in other Star Wars things, played the titular Willow and Leprechaun and even play the Charms professor in the Harry Potter films. So let's see if this little cartoon is worth a watch:

Now because this series has a lot of self-contained stories and not many story arcs, I've decided that I will review it as one big show that happened to have two seasons. Set just prior to the Imperial and Rebel forces arriving on Endor in Return of the Jedi, the series is focused on the adventures of Wicket W. Warrick (voiced by Jim Henshaw, then by Denny Delk) and his friends. Unlike the films, these characters all speak our language (possibly to make things make sense unlike the Holiday Special) and adventures include facing a witch, a species related to the Ewoks and at one point, taking a trip to an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Whether its seen more as a marketing ploy or something the kids looked forward to on a Saturday morning, this series is decent. It has a few entertaining stories and has the fun element thrown in on occasion. Don't really get why its not considered canon because it's not like what's happening will affect the timeline as it is largely set on Endor. It also had a couple of films which I will look at one day, so its definitely had an impact if only a small one. Plus its also referenced a few times in the canon timeline and various Star Wars books and other media. Whether you love them or hate them, they are still as cute as ever and still pack a punch despite their size. Though still don't understand how they can speak English here and not be able to speak that language in the films. But some things are best kept as a mystery. Anyway may the force be with you all. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
