Random Movie Review - The Hustle

Without coming across as too sexist, many films that are basically female centred versions of otherwise male centred films, tend to not have the best response. Most of the time, it's generally because die hard fans of the original film just don't like change. But then again, you get people like me who are ok with change and just want to watch a great film. In fact, I actually enjoyed the all female Ghostbusters film despite what people say of it and it now being ret conned by the upcoming Afterlife. I just want to give any and all films a chance as long as I am interested in them. I even gave The Emoji Movie a chance and yeah the less we talk about that pile of 💩, the better. So this brings us to The Hustle, a film that stars the wonderful Anne Hathaway and the very funny Rebel Wilson which itself is a remake of the film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and also Bedtime Story of which the former is itself a remake of. It's all about conning people and if I know what I know from Ed, Edd N Eddy well enough, some cons work, but others don't. Let's take a look:

The film is focused on two different but similar con artists. One called Penny (played by Wilson) is a small-time con artist who traps men into giving her money. The other called Josephine (played by Hathaway) is a more sophisticated con artist who cons the world's richest men out of their money. The pair worship their idol Medusa (played by Casper Christensen) and eventually find each other and join forces to do even more cons. What follows is a series of shenanigans and the usual buddy film stuff that we are all used to seeing.

It's not a great film. There really isn't anything in it that's different to what has been done before as far as buddy films and conning is concerned. I did chuckle a couple of times, so there are some genuinely funny moments. But that isn't really enough to make this remake of a remake worth your time. Don't get conned and enjoy these ladies in their other works. 6/10
