Random TV Season Review - Good Omens (Season 1)

I have always thought that Michael Sheen and David Tennant would be great as a double act together. I have also always thought that there would be one more thing that Terry Pratchett would want to adapt in some capacity before he died. Interestingly, this series came about when him and co-author Neil Gaiman were wanting to turn their book in a film for many years. Eventually, like most long developed projects initially considered for a film, it ended up as a Prime Original series comprised of six parts with a second season on the way. The minds of Pratchett and Gaiman are ones that have a sense of wonder, wit, weird comedy and some fantasy, so I'm hoping for all of that with this series. Let's take a look:

In 2018, Crowley (played by Tennant) and Aziraphale (played by Sheen) who are representatives of Hell and Heaven respectively on Earth, are forced to work together when they learn of the coming of the Antichrist and with it, Armageddon leading into the final battle between Heaven and Hell. Despite being acquaintances, the pair task themselves with finding the child said to be the Antichrist and use their influence to make him neither good nor evil but normal. A difficult task for sure, with interesting results.

Putting aside the obvious religious themes that had caused a cancellation petition to be created (which itself is a bit bizarre), this show is pretty good. It's witty, fun, irrelevant in its hilarity and one of those few times when the casting of its main characters is one that works thanks to their chemistry. I've seen a few of Prattchett's works be adapted this way as a miniseries of sorts and for what they are, they do work and this is another good one even though it may be the last one he was at least for a time, directly involved in. 9/10
