Well I definitely did think that Far From Home just wasn't the best Spider-Man film when you compare it to Into the Spider-Verse which had come out before it. But I got to say Marvel really stepped up for this film. Raising the stakes, bringing sorcery into the mix and playing on the idea of there being a multiverse. But like two other Spider-Man films, it does the one thing that made those particular films overstuffed and just not great; having too many villains. But they didn't just decide to make a new villain. Instead, they bought back villains from the Sam Rami and Marc Webb universes, which I guess is a way for those two Spider-Man film franchises to get some retribution while also allowing Marvel to further their overarching Phase 4 story of the multiverse. This is either going to be a fantastic but emotional film or a classic example of a overhyped film not living up to expectations. Let's take a look at the last film of this trilogy because well a trilogy is three films. That is what a trilogy is, after all (some press people can be dumb):
Following from Far From Home (and obviously some spoilers if you haven't seen that film yet), Peter Parker (reprised by Tom Holland) has his identity as Spider-Man exposed to the world following his ordeal with Mysterio in the previous film. With him being a prime suspect in Mysterio's murder, he is framed, and various things fall into play that make him and his circle of family and friends, more vulnerable than ever. Even though the charges do get dropped thanks to a certain Netflix Marvel hero, his and his friends' applications into college are rejected due to the recent events. With not many options left, Peter seeks out the help of Doctor Strange (reprised by Benedict Cumberbatch) who conjures up a spell that would allow everyone to forget who Spider-Man is under the mask. Despite warnings from Wong (reprised by Benedict Wong) and Peter's tampering of the spell, the spell is unleashed onto the wider multiverse and visitors from other Earths who have fought Spider-Man before, start to appear. It's up to the Spider-Man of the MCU to stop this madness before it's too late, getting help from some familiar allies along the way (and it's not just the people from his Earth).
So as most of us know having watched the Spider-Man films since the very first Sam Rami film, we have always wanted those films and the Marc Webb films to have some much-needed closure because well they didn't really end well. In fact, the final films of each series were never intended to be the final films. Spider-Man 4 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 were both in the works, but never amounted to anything due to how bad 3 and 2 respectively were. A Sinister Six and Venom spin-off were in the works for the latter's franchise too, but only Venom made it into a film albeit reworked to be part of Sony's own Marvel Cinematic Universe. But I can definitely say that this film really does those films the justice they deserved and have those events tie into this film in terms of sharing experiences and possibly do some good in the wake of all the emotional turmoil. Plus, it's also great that this film finally has at least one Netflix series be canon and also has references to the Spider-Verse films and maybe one surprise or two from two other Spider-Man universes if you have seen the recent Sony films and played one or both of the recently released games. It's up there as being the second-best Spider-Man film overall for me and second because I still find Into the Spider-Verse to be the best film of them all. As for the wider MCU, yeah, it's up there as being one of the best ones. The only criticism I have is that a certain villain that was wasted in an earlier Spider-Man film, did not appear, and I hoped he would. Granted though that his actor is a very busy man, but guess we can't have everything. Oh, and it finally breaks the curse of the worst Spider-Man films being the ones that have too many villains because this has too many villains, but it is a great film (ignoring Spider-Verse because most of those villains were just minions to the main bad guy). 9/10
