For as long as I can remember, Aardman like making deals with various companies. They did some shorts for BBC, ITV and Nintendo and feature films for DreamWorks, Sony and StudioCanal. Now with development for the Chicken Run sequel underway, they are now doing things for Netflix and this is their first short for the streaming platform. This short in particular is unique in that it's not quite clay motion, as the materials used are actually fabrics. Plus, with the BBC have a reputation of doing stop-motion shorts around this time of the year, it's good to see other companies have a crack at it. So let's take a look:
A family of mice, go into people's homes to take their food. But this particular family has an unusual member called Robin (voiced by Bronte Carmichael) who believes is a mouse, but not quite aware of her being a robin. When one "heist" goes horribly wrong, Robin sets off on a journey of self discovery to question her true belonging, making a friend and an enemy along the way.
I have never truly felt that Aardman have done any bad film or short, and I got to be honest, this is pretty good. Predictable sure, but the musical numbers are good, the characters are fun and the stop-motion is just as good as it has always been for this great company that once made Wensleydale cheese very popular at a time when it was not selling so well. 9/10
