AC5: Random Movie Review - Father Christmas Is Back

Kelsey Grammer and John Cleese, two great actors that I admire and somehow wind up together in this bizarre film. Most of you know Grammer as being Frasier on Cheers and the titular spin-off as well as the voice of Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons. Cleese of course is the oldest member of Monty Python and has appeared in other things such as Fawlty Towers and the Shrek films. So they appear in this film which I got to be honest, its probably one of the weirdest Netflix films set around Christmas that I have seen. Let's take a look:

Four sisters, who just so happen to have Christmas as their surname, reunite to celebrate Christmas with their family. Caroline (played by Nathalie Cox) is the host and wants everything to run smoothly despite some friction between her and her sisters Joanna (played by Elizabeth Hurley), Vicky (played by Talulah Riley) and Paulina (played by Naomi Frederick), possibly due to their very different personalities. But as things get underway, their estranged father James (played by Grammer) decides to finally re-join the family after many years being away from them. Causing some upset, some shocking revelations and one Christmas that this family are not going to forget no doubt.

Cleese and Grammer are in my opinion, great in anything even if the thing they are in is bad. This film is very cringy, but does try perhaps a bit too hard to make people laugh and crack a smile. Some meaningful moments are acted out well, but the comedy is cringy (unless Grammer and Cleese are involved) and it just isn't a great film. Perhaps Father Christmas should just stay where he is and not come back from wherever it is that he was at. 6/10
