Just before and during this pandemic, I have come to really admire The Walking Dead as a franchise. It has come a long way since its comic book days with a number of TV shows, video games and so many other things with even more stuff in the works. No one would have ever thought that a franchise all to do with zombies would do so well, and yet here we are. Not even the C word can stop its popularity. But with popularity comes some issues. Not everything you see will last, and this became the result of the second season of World Beyond. What has been described as the coming of age TV series for the franchise has had a good run, but sadly reached its end with this final season which at the time of writing this, makes it the shortest of the franchise's TV shows. This may be a good thing or a bad thing, but either way, let's take a look:
As with the previous season, the show is set in the TV universe 10 years after the initial zombie apocalypse, with its characters being coming of age that will help shape them into good and bad people. This season sees the so-called heroes, venture into a facility that is trying to find a way for humanity to continue on with science. Plus, a familiar face that we last saw in the mid-season finale of season 9 of the main show, makes a reappearance ahead of the film trilogy.
Not really much to say other than it is trying to stand out in an otherwise crowded franchise. It does pretty well in being a coming of age show, which this final season attempts to reinforce. Interesting to see how these characters try to adapt to a world full of people that knew what life was like before zombies (or walkers I should say) invaded the Earth and made humanity close to being extinct. It's an OK final season, but could've been so much more. 7/10
