TV Season Review - The Umbrella Academy (Season 3)

Things just got complicated. Something that may become quite common with shows and films we are getting right now. Time travelling, messing the timeline, universe swapping and all sorts of other things. Fortunately for us, Umbrella Academy is only messing with the timeline and since the last season, much has happened. The person formerly known as Ellen is now Elliot Paige following a transgender operation. That and this little thing called the coronavirus, which screwed nearly everything up. Well, enough talk, let's take a look at another show that is probably another reason to keep Netflix around:

After their adventures in Dallas, the Umbrellas find themselves in an altered timeline where their father, Sir Reginald (reprised by Colm Feore), has instead adopted six other children and a very much alive Ben (reprised by Justin H. Min) who are known as the Sparrow Academy. He has managed to turn the new team into very competent and popular superheroes, and both teams do battle. Overwhelmed, the Umbrellas flee, but accidentally leave their time travel briefcase behind and take shelter inside Hotel Obsidian. Vanya (reprised by Elliot Paige who, like the actress, also transgenders and calls himself Viktor), goes to meet with the Sparrow leader Marcus (played by Justin Cornwell) to make a deal that would allow the Umbrellas to leave with the briefcase and cause no more fuss. But when Marcus mysteriously disappears, the Umbrellas and Sparrows start to question everything, just as a new threat to the timeline emerges.

Much like with Stranger Things, this show is also a bit overstuffed with things. But it continues its great way of developing its characters that we have all come to know, like and on occasion, hate. It has a lot of funny moments, eye candy in areas and I especially love how they subtly addressed Elliot Paige's transgender change by having her character go the same way, but still being very much Umbrella Number Seven. 9/10
