Random TV Season Review - Halo (Season 1)

We all know what the deal is when it comes to video games being adapted for film and TV. Most have failed to live up to expectations and haven't really captured the spirit and all that of the games themselves. But recently, there has been a change in that with more effort thrown in and quality too. Alongside their Sonic films, Paramount also gained the rights to create a TV show based on the Halo franchise. Microsoft's very own flagship franchise, so a lot is at stake here for the TV show. Fortunately, the show runners chose for the show to go down its own path while respecting the canon of the games' storyline. So let's take a look and see what going down in the galaxy:

Set as a standalone story within its own "Silver Timeline" that is considered separate from the mainstream stuff, the year is 2552. The Covenant attack an Insurrectionist outpost on the planet Madrigal in which they massacre everyone, leaving only teenager Kwan Ha (played by Yerin Ha) as the sole survivor. That is, until the Spartan unit, Silver Team, arrive to intervene. Master Chief Petty Officer John-177 (played by Pablo Schreiber) finds and retrieves an artefact that, when touched, reveals his sealed up childhood memories. He later defies an order to kill Kwan as he sets out to learn more about this artefact, just as we learn more of his origins and all that.

Having not played the games all the way through despite my reviews of them, this series for what it is, it's alright. It's far from being the greatest of all sci-fi shows, but does try its best to live up to expectations from long time fans. There is hope for it, but if the writing and character development continues to be mediocre, then there isn't much point in carrying this on. Good visuals and acting, though. 7/10
